IoT Sensors Network

Network of IoT sensors capable of monitoring quality parameters and verifying supply chain processes. The sensor network will enable a combined monitoring of both, climatic conditions during transport of organic products and the registration of individual types of goods during loading and unloading.

Key Components

Sensors:

  • Devices monitoring temperature and humidity inside of the package with products.

  • Data are collected on internal memory and based on the version of the sensors – either sent by IoT network/GPRS to the SensLog data storage.

SensLog:

  • It provides receiving, storing, processing and publication of various sensor data.

  • It contains the data model for the storage of observations and the main storage in the database.

  • It has different REST APIs for data receiving and publication, proprietary or standardised.

SensLog Connector:

  • The Connector is a component that implements the interface of the data provider or data consumer and translates it from or to the internal SensLog interface.

  • It is a type of component which is implemented directly based on a specific use case.

  • It can process interfaces in push and pull mode and provides SensLog REST API internally.

SensLog Analytics:

  • This component processes observations and provides other observations or alerts which can be stored in the main database or reported to other applications/channels.

  • It can process data in three types:

    • Statistical processing
    • Threshold monitoring
    • Pattern value

Interfaces

  • REST API – main interface of the SensLog Platform; each component provides a set of services. Mainly proprietary interface with JSON data encoding. A standardised interface based on OGC SensorThingsAPI is provided for data receiving and publication.

  • Web Map Visualisation App – A standalone application used for visualisation of observations in a mashup with different types of thematic maps. Observations can be visualised in the form of charts or geometry features with different symbology.

Services

Statistical processing:

  • Calculations of averages, min, max, aggregations etc.

  • Generating new observations.

Threshold monitoring:

  • Compares observations with defined thresholds.

  • If reaching from below or from above.

  • Monitors when the value is returning to a defined range.

Pattern values monitoring:

  • Evaluate a combination of defined observations or compare observations with defined patterns in data.

  • Generate an observation or report to other applications or channels.

Usage and applications

The Czech pilot uses the IoT network to monitor conditions during package transport to ensure the correct delivery conditions for perishables. Sensors measure directly in the package and provide data online to the SensLog platform. Observations are paired with locations based on the selected method of delivery – direct monitoring of the delivery van or loading from the tracking log of the delivery company. SensLog Analytics processes observations to monitor defined thresholds, creating alerts when conditions are violated. The report is generated after a package is delivered to the customer. When the report does not contain any generated alerts, conditions were proper during the transport, and a certificate about the transport conditions can be provided.
