The ESA Agriculture Science Cluster was held in ESA-ESRIN in Frascati (Italy) from 16-17 May 2024.
The ESA Agriculture Science Cluster was recently launched to promote networking, collaborative research, and international collaboration in the domain of Earth Observation and Agriculture.
It involves several ESA-funded projects and activities bringing together different expertise, data, and resources in a synergistic manner to ensure that the result may be larger than the sum of its parts.
During the event, a number of interesting lightning talk presentations took place. Among them there were a number of European project such as: CERBERUS, ScaleAgData, AgriDataValue, TEMBO AFRICA, SYLVA, EIFFEL, THEROS, DINOSAR, WaterSense, AFRI4CAST, EOAfrica, WRM, HyRelief, CRISP, WorldCereal, ECOSTRESS HUB, YIPEEO, EO4NUTRI, EO4Cereal Stress.
Challenges and policies for agriculture were also discussed and summarized in the following points:
- increasing agriculture production while ensuring its nutrient content;
- improving resilience to climate change while reducing carbon emissions and environmental impacts;
- granting affordable food for everyone while ensuring a stable and sufficient income for farmers.
THEROS was represented and being presented by Mr. Valantis Tsiakos, member of the coordinating team of ICCS.
