The 39th EFFoST International Conference 2025 was conducted between 17–19 November 2025 in Porto, Portugal, at the Alfândega Porto Congress Centre, hosted by Universidade Católica Portuguesa (UCP) Faculty of Biotechnology (Escola Superior de Biotecnologia).
Every day, the importance of healthy and sustainably produced food becomes more evident—and this is exactly where the European Federation of Food Science and Technology (EFFoST) plays a key role. EFFoST facilitates knowledge and technology exchange among food professionals and creates opportunities for food scientists, engineers, technologists, policymakers, and businesses to connect and collaborate, with the shared objective of accelerating the uptake of new technologies and developments. More than 130 organizations (societies, institutes, and universities) across Europe are affiliated with EFFoST.
EFFoST supports the continued development of food science and technology by strengthening cross-disciplinary collaboration (from microbiology and chemistry to engineering and materials science) and by sharing expertise and independent input that supports European research and innovation agendas.
EFFoST 2025 brought together researchers and professionals across food science and technology to exchange insights and showcase innovations under the theme “Fostering the Transition to Sustainable Food Systems: Embracing Novelty and Overcoming Challenges.”
The THEROS project was represented by AuTH colleagues from SPECTRA lab, who showcased their work through a poster presentation entitled “Low-Cost Portable NIR and AI Approaches for Detecting Wheat Flour Adulteration with Talcum Powder“. Their poster is accessible here.
